Abigale Lee
Mills (born on the 21st of September, 1965) was an American dance instructor,
choreographer and reality television host. She is the founder of the Abby Lee
Dance Company, which was featured on the reality show Dance Moms for eight
seasons. On June 27, 2016, Miller pleaded guilty to criminal bankruptcy fraud.
Miller was sentenced on the 27th of June 2016, to one year, one day in federal
prison. She was released in March 27th, 2018. In April 2018 she was diagnosed
with lymphoma, a form of cancer that left her unable to walk. She uses a
wheelchair to get around. Miller grew up around dance in Penn Hills,
Pennsylvania, an Pittsburgh suburb. She attended classes under the guidance of
her mother at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. In 1980, when she was 14, Miller
was given the task of for choreographing and coaching one of the dance teams of
her mother. Miller assumed control of the studio and renamed Reign Dance
Productions in 1995. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America, and was
a part of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 (February 1986). However,
DMA terminated her membership in February 2012 due to the fact that Miller's
reality show Dance Moms was a "complete misrepresentation of our teachers
and students" and was damaging to the profession.
